Kansas Accreditation Readiness Project Learning Collaborative Pre-Session Webinar – Domain 6

This webinar has been specifically created to meet the needs of Kansas Accreditation Readiness Project participants. It references resources available in Kansas, and uses the experiences of Kansas LHDs’ as the framework for discussion. It is intended to prepare Kansas health departments for ongoing discussion within the KARP learning collaborative. The purpose of this presentation is to provide a brief overview of Domain 6 and to highlight some of the details of Domain 6 that could be missed.

The goal of this presentation is to provide an overview of PHAB Domain 6. Domain 6 provides requirements for Enforcing Public Health Laws. “Public Health Laws” is a very broad term that refers to all types of statutes, regulations, rules, executive orders, ordinances, case law, and codes.

Preparedness, Public Health Policy and Law

The aftermath of Hurricane Katrina has presented manifold direct and indirect public health problems such as contaminated water, soil and food; mold problems; hazardous waste and debris hazards; vector infestation; and damage to health infrastructure, residential and commercial buildings, etc. This experience has uncovered the inadequacy of policies in areas such as land-use practices, wetland management, building code, food safety, sanitation and emergency preparedness.

Provides resources and examples for all domains
